Dr. John Maddox is a board-certified dematologist who joined the practice in January, 2013. Dr. Maddox graduated from Mercer Univeristy in Macon, GA, and received his M.D. at the Medical College of Augusta, GA. in 1974. He completed his Dermatology Residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco which shared faculty with UCSF, the top rated residency program in the country. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Dermatology. He was Clinical Instructor in Dermatolgy at Harvard Medical School and an assistant Clinical Professor in Dermatology at UCSF. Prior to joining Greenbrae Dermatology he was the Chief of Dermatology at Kaiser, San Rafael until December 2012. Prior to this Dr. Maddox was the Chief of the Dermatology service at Letterman Army Medical Center and retired from the Army at the rank of Colonel. Dr. Maddox is a Fellow inthe American Academy of Dermatology and the Marin Medical Society. He is very experienced in all aspects of clinical dermatology and particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. He has been an active volunteer as a dermatologist with the Rotacare medical clinic for the past 10 years. Dr. Maddox is a strong believer in the value of exercise. He is a former marathon runner and now enjoys hiking and biking, (both road and mountain) and usually commutes to work by bicycle. He believes that everyone should practice safe sun, exercise as much as they can, eat healthy foods and have fun.
Barbara McCoy, R.N., Psy.D. is our cosmetic nurse specialist. She has been an integral part of our practice since 2002. She is an artist in Juvederm, Voluma and Botox injections. She also treats facial vessels, redness, and pigmentation with our Aura laser and Aesthera Intense Pulsed light device and performs laser hair reduction with the Aesthera device. She treats acne with the Aesthera as well as the Aura laser. She practiced nursing at Marin General Hospital for over 25 years and now has an active private practice in Psychology.
Dr. Cheryl Tanasovich is a board-certified dermatologist who has been in private practice in Greenbrae since 1990. She graduated Summa cum Laude in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She was a Regents Scholar and received her M.D. degree from University of California Davis School of Medicine in 1983. She completed a General Surgery Residency at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco and completed Internal Medicine Residency there as well. She completed her Dermatology Residency at University of California San Francisco, where she also carried out a Melanoma Fellowship. Dr. Tanasovich is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology. Her practice focuses on general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She is a Fellow the American Academy of Dermatology and the Marin Medical Society. Dr. Tanasovich serves as Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at UCSF. Dr. Tanasovich was voted by Bay Area physicians as "Best Doctor" of Dermatology in Area Code 415 and 628 for the last several years by Marin Magazine.
Dr. Benjamin Nichols is a board-certified Dermatologist who is joining our practice, Greenbrae Dermatology, in October of 2016. Dr. Nichols was born in Seattle, Washington but spent most of his youth in Pasadena, California. After graduating from San Marino High School, he moved to the San Francisco bay area to attend UC Berkeley for his undergraduate studies. He subsequently returned south and received his Medical Degree (M.D.) from University of Souther California, where he graduated With Highest Distinction in 2005. After medical school, he continued his medical training at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California residency program and completed his specialty training in Dermatology. He served as Chief Resident during his final year in Dermatology and continued on at USC as a Clinical Assistant Professor, where he staffed the high risk skin cancer and melanoma clinic at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has authored numerous scientific articles which have been published in the dermatology literature and continues to provide professional consultation services. Dr. Nichols has been voted by Bay Area physicians as "Best Doctor" of Dermatology in area code 415 and 628 for the past several years.
Dr. Nichols' father, brother, wife and great aunt are medical doctors. His mother was a nurse for 40 years at the Veterans Affairs Dermatology Department in Los Angeles before retiring in 2015. His passion and interest in medicine goes beyond his chosen specialty of Dermatology. When his wife completed her training in Head and Neck Surgery, also at USC, they decided to return to the SF Bay area where she grew up. His wife, Kambridge Hribar, MD, is a busy ENT in Marin County and they have two small children.
